Selected Areas of Expertise (Non-Exhaustive)

Mental State at The Time of the Offense

The evaluation of a criminal defendant's mental state at the time of the offense (sanity) is often a complicated matter that requires a deep understanding of the nuances of the case applied strictly to the jurisdictional legal standard.  In other words, separating the signal from the noise.

Workplace LITIGATION

From sexual harassment, to discrimination, to emotional damages, workplace litigation is rife with the opportunity for psychiatry and the law to collide.  Litigating a case successfully often hinges upon the navigation of complex psychiatric concepts.

Physician Impairment

Allegations of impairment of a physician's ability to safely practice medicine are a serious matter.  On the one hand, absent treatment, an impaired physician endangers the public and can put innocent lives at risk.  On the other, erroneous allegations of impairment can deprive the community of a physician, and put the physician's livelihood in jeopardy, compromising decades of study and sacrifice.

Malingering

The intentional production of symptoms of mental illness for external gain is termed malingering.  Regardless of whether a case is criminal or civil in nature, jurists want to know whether the alleged symptoms of mental illness are genuine or malingered.  The assessment of malingering is complicated.  The expert witness must possess a deep understanding of psychiatric illness, and the ability to communicate clearly and simply.

Capital Punishment

The imposition of the ultimate punishment merits uncompromising attention to detail and analytical review.  Some experts embellish or dismiss psychiatric factors pertinent to the imposition of the death penalty.  Retaining Dr. Lamoureux's services will provide you with the peace of mind that comes with thorough, uncompromising professional integrity.

Violence Risk assessment and Stalking

The threat of violence is an unfortunate reality, often underscored by high-profile events, such as mass killings, spree murder, and serial homicide.  Awareness of the threat of violence is heightened among those victimized by stalking.  Assessment of violence risk can, in some cases, literally be the difference between life and death.
